About Fair Trade

fair trade artisans

All Malia Design products are handmade in Cambodia by Fair Trade producer groups.

In a world where over one billion of the earth’s people live on less than $1 per day, Fair Trade businesses aim to combat poverty by providing a fair, livable wage for all workers, ensuring safe working conditions, empowering the disadvantaged to be active players in their workplace, aiding community development efforts, respecting cultural identity, and promoting environmentally sound business practices. It is a sustainable way to provide economic opportunity and hope for marginalized people in some of the poorest communities worldwide.

Fair Trade Is:

  • a social justice movement
  • an alternative business model
  • a system of global commerce
  • a tool for international and community development

How do Malia Designs’ Fair Trade practices help fight
Human Trafficking in Cambodia?

We seek to empower disadvantaged women in Cambodia by providing economic opportunities through Fair Trade. In a country where sexual exploitation is commonplace, this access to sustainable income decreases their vulnerability to prostitution and Human Trafficking. It is our goal to break the cycle of poverty and abuse by providing an income to women and protection and support to children who are vulnerable to traffickers.
